IV. Newsletter & Mailinglist

  1. Description and scope of data processing

On our website you can subscribe to the free DIFIS newsletter and other DIFIS mailings on various topics and formats of social policy research.

When you register, the data from the input mask is transmitted to us. In particular, these are:

E-mail address; Name (optional)

The user's consent to the processing of this data is obtained as part of the registration process. In addition, the following data is collected during registration:

IP address of the calling computer (not in connection with the service offered, but in the server log files for seven days); date and time of registration.

No data is passed on to third parties in connection with the processing of data for the dispatch of newsletters and other mailings from the DIFIS. The data is used exclusively for sending the newsletter or DIFIS-related mailings.

  1. Legal basis for data processing

The legal basis for the processing of the data after registration for the newsletter by the users is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO if the users have given their consent.

  1. Purpose of the data processing

The collection of the user's email address is used to deliver the newsletter and other DIFIS mailings. The collection of other personal data during the registration process serves to prevent misuse of the services or the email address used.

  1. Duration of storage

The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required to achieve the purpose for which it was collected. The user's email address is therefore stored for as long as the subscription to the newsletter is active.

The other personal data collected during the registration process is usually deleted after a period of seven days.

  1. Possibility of objection and removal

The newsletter and DIFIS-related mailings are sent out on the basis of the user's registration on the website: This also enables the revocation of consent to the storage of personal data collected during the registration process.

V. E-Mail-Contact

  1. Description and scope of data processing

It is possible to contact us via the e-mail addresses provided. In this case, the personal data of the user transmitted by e-mail will be stored.

In this context, the data is not passed on to third parties. The data is used exclusively for processing the respective conversation.

    2. Legal basis for data processing

The legal basis for the processing of data is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO if the user has given his or her consent.

The legal basis for the processing of data transmitted in the course of sending an e-mail is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO. If the e-mail contact aims at the conclusion of a contract, the additional legal basis for the processing is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b DSGVO.

    3. Purpose of the data processing

The processing of personal data is solely for the purpose of processing the contact.

    4. Duration of storage

The data will be deleted as soon as they are no longer required to achieve the purpose for which they were collected.

    5. Possibility of objection and removal

Users can object to the storage of their personal data at any time. In such a case, the conversation cannot be continued.

All personal data stored in the course of contacting us will be deleted in this case.

VI. Third party services

The use of the platforms mentioned below serves to provide an attractive presentation of our online offers and to make all available information and content usable. This represents a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) f DSGVO, on the legal basis of which the data processing takes place.

In our web offer, we refer to our social media channels with the following providers:

Twitter & Youtube

Accessing these channels requires that the providers of this content are aware of the IP address of the user, as without the IP address no content can be sent to the browser of the data subject. The IP address is therefore required for the display of this content. We have no influence on whether and how third-party providers store and use IP addresses.

  1. Integration of OpenStreetMap

We include maps from OpenStreetMap on our website. OpenStreetMap is a project of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, 132 Maney Hill Road, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands B72 1JU, United Kingdom, which collects freely usable geodata and stores it in a database for free use.

When you access the website, no connection is initially established to the OpenStreetMap servers. Instead of the embedded map, you will initially only be shown a preview image that we retrieve from our web server.

Any subsequent interactions on this website (such as searching by institute, region, continent, organisational unit) will connect to the OpenStreetMap Foundation servers and transfer data to the OpenStreetMap Foundation to display embedded maps. For more information on data protection in connection with OpenStreet Map, please refer to the OpenStreetMap Foundation's data protection information.

When establishing a connection to display the maps, the following data is transmitted to OpenStreetMap servers:

IP address,
browser and device used,
operating system,
the website from which you were redirected to the OpenStreetMap Foundation website (referring web page) and
Date and time of your visit to the website.

If you have a user account with OpenStreetMap and are logged in when you visit our website, the following data is also transmitted to the OpenStreetMap servers:

User ID,
email address associated with their account, and
content blocked by the user and associated messages.

The integration is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO. It is done in order to make our website more user-friendly and interesting. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of the aforementioned provision.

You can prevent any data transfer to the OpenStreetMap servers by deactivating JavaScript in your browser. In this case, however, you will not be able to use the map display.

  1. Integration of YouTube-Videos

It may happen that YouTube videos are integrated within our website. This usually requires that the providers of this content are aware of the IP address of the user, as without the IP address no content can be sent to the browser of the respective person. The IP address is therefore required for the display of this content. We have no influence on whether and how third-party providers store IP addresses.

You can find out about the data protection regulations for the use of YouTube at:
https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=de&gl=de

  1. Integration of Twitter-Streams

Our website uses social plugins ("plugins") of the social network twitter.com ("Twitter"), which is operated by Twitter Inc., 795 Folsom Street, Suite 600, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA.

When you call up a web page of our website that contains such a plugin, your browser establishes a direct connection with the servers of Twitter. The content of the plugin is transmitted by Twitter directly to your browser, which then integrates it into the website.

By integrating the plugin, Twitter receives the information that you have accessed the corresponding page of our website. If you are logged in to Twitter, Twitter can assign the visit to your Twitter account. For the purpose and scope of the data collection and the further processing and use of the data by Twitter, as well as your rights in this regard and setting options for protecting your privacy, please refer to Twitter's privacy policy at:

https://twitter.com/de/privacy

VII. Rights of the person concerned

If your personal data is processed, you are a data subject within the meaning of the GDPR and you have the following rights vis-à-vis the controller:

- According to Art. 15 of the GDPR, you have the right to information. This means that you can request confirmation from us as to whether personal data relating to you is being processed by us.
- According to Art. 16 of the GDPR, you have the right to rectification. This means that you can request us to correct any personal data relating to you that is inaccurate.
- According to Art. 17 of the GDPR, you have the right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"). This means that you can demand that we delete personal data relating to you without delay - unless we are not allowed to delete your data because, for example, we have to comply with statutory retention obligations.
- According to Art. 18 DSGVO, you have the right to restriction of processing. This means that we are practically no longer allowed to process your personal data - apart from storing it.
- According to Art. 20 DSGVO, you have the right to data portability. This means you have the right to receive the personal data concerning you that you have provided to us in a structured, common and machine-readable format and to transfer this data to another controller.
- In accordance with Art. 7 (3) of the GDPR, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time in the future.
- In accordance with Art. 77 DSGVO, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority. As a rule, you can contact the supervisory authority of your usual place of residence or workplace or the University of Duisburg-Essen or the University of Bremen for this purpose (see contact details of official data protection officers).

If you wish to exercise your rights, please contact the data protection officers in writing (by post or by e-mail) (see contact details above).

Changes to this privacy policy

We review the data protection declaration at regular intervals. For example, with regard to changes in legal provisions. Against this background, we reserve the right to make adjustments to the data protection declaration. Therefore, please always inform yourself at the beginning of the use of our web offer about the data protection declaration valid at that time.

Information about your right to object in accordance with Art. 21 of the General Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO)

If you have consented to us processing your personal data by making an appropriate declaration, you may revoke your consent at any time for the future. You have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to the processing of personal data relating to you which is carried out on the basis of Article 6(1)(f) of the DSGVO (data processing on the basis of legitimate interests).

The revocation or objection can in principle be lodged without any formalities. However, for reasons of proof, we ask you to declare the revocation and objection by post or e-mail to the contact details provided at the beginning of this information sheet.

If you object, we will no longer process and delete your personal data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves to assert, exercise or defend legal claims.
